Acupunture

What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing which aims to balance a person's inner energy to promote good health and well-being. Fine sterile stainless steel needles are inserted into specific acupuncture points to bring about widespread benefits to a person's physical body and their general state of mind and emotions.

What happens during Acupuncture?
After an initial detailed case history lasting about 2 hours, the acupuncturist will check a patient's wrist pulses and sometimes also their tongue. Treatment then starts on a weekly basis, with sterile needles being inserted as appropriate to create the desired changes in the patient's energy. Sometimes a process called moxibustion is used - with the skin being gently warmed by a traditional herbal preparation. The frequency of treatment decreases gradually as the patient starts to maintain any improvement.

Who is it for?
Acupuncture can be used as a general treatment which may be beneficial to a wide range of conditions - for example anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain, circulatory problems, depression, high blood pressure, indeterminable aches and pains, infertility, menstrual and menopause problems, migraines, skin conditions, insomnia and many more.
It does more, however, than cure symptoms, working more to restoring overall balance to make a person feel better from within.

Zero Balancing

What Zero Balancing?
Zero Balancing is a gentle yet powerful hands-on method of balancing body energy with body structure. Using finger pressure and held stretches, it invites the release of tension accumulated in the deep structures of the body. The specific quality of touch enables physical structure and energy to be engaged simultaneously in a way that harmonises the relationship between them. Zero Balancing provides a point of stillness around which the body can relax, giving an opportunity to let go of unease and pain, and the experience of a new level of integration. The name Zero Balancing arose spontaneously from a recipient's description of the session she had just received.

What happens during a session?
Zero Balancing is a hands-on bodywork. It is done with the client clothed and lying on his or her back. A short health history will be taken before the session starts. It is not necessary for the client to talk during the session. A session may take anywhere between twenty and forty minutes. Zero Balancing promotes a deep state of relaxation, and it is common for people to feel refreshingly rested and revitalised after the first session. It is recommended that a person has three sessions to begin with, and then decides with their practitioner what frequency would best serve them. Some people continue to have ZB regularly, whilst others find it beneficial at times when they need to be functioning at their best, or during times of particular stress, or during transitional periods in their lives.

People who receive Zero Balancing may also move into a new state of awareness from which old patterns and habits in the body and mind may be more readily released. This can manifest as noticeable changes in the way physical structure and movement are experienced, or as a shift in inner landscape so that new opportunities and choices become apparent.

Homeopathy

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a form of Holistic medicine, based on the premise, 'Like cures Like'.

Each person is an unique individual and responds to disease in an individual way.  It thus stands to reason that the remedy needed to cure this individual state of disease should cover this uniqueness.

By taking a thorough and detailed case history from the patient and matching it to the symptom picture of the closest matching remedy, the body is energised and stimulated to heal itself.

As healing occurs from the inside, outwards, there are no side effects to the remedies and healing occurs in a gentle, safe and permanent way.

Homeopathic remedies are used to treat a wide range of ailments, from the acute to the chronic and long term.  They can be safely taken by the very young,  the very old and in situations where there may be a reluctance to use conventional medicines, e.g. during pregnancy.

Sheryl has a special interest in the Homeopathic treatment of Autism and the Autistic spectrum and also in Homeopathy for Pregnancy and Childbirth.

McTimoney Chiropractic

What is McTimoney Chiropractic?

McTimoney Chiropractic is a relatively gentle whole body type of chiropractic.

Chiropractic is a method of adjusting and balancing the spine and pelvis to relive pain, increase mobility and improve health.

Your spine is made up of vertebrae which form a movable column that houses the spinal cord.  This in turn branches into nerves that serve all of the body from digestion to dancing.  Distortion in the spine, called misalignments, disrupt these messages most commonly causing pain but also stiffness, discomfort, tiredness, and even headaches.

This distortion is due mainly to accidents, poor lifting, falls, stress, repetitive strain, bad posture and many other causes.  These may affect the pelvis, the foundation on which the spine rest.

Chiropractors use hands to adjust joints and restore the bodies’ alignment, restore function and general health.  They can help back, neck and shoulder pain, headaches, whiplash, sciatica, sports injuries and more.

Using light movements McTimoney Chiropractic is suitable for all, from babies to the elderly.

Osteopathy

What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is an established, recognised system of diagnosis and treatment that lays its main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body. Osteopathy is distinctive in the fact that it recognises much of the pain and disability we suffer stems from abnormalities in the function of the body structure as well as damage caused to it by disease.

Osteopathy uses many of the diagnostic procedures used in conventional medical assessment and diagnosis. Its main strength, however, lies in the unique way the patient is assessed from a mechanical, functional and postural standpoint and the gentle manual methods of treatment applied to suit the needs of the individual patient.

  • Headaches
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Trapped nerves
  • Shoulder & arm pain
  • Wrist & hand pain
  • Hip & knee problems
  • Sciatica
  • Posture problems
  • Calf, ankle, foot & heel pain
  • Stiff & painful necks
  • Frozen or stiff shoulder
  • Tennis & golfers elbow
  • Low back pain
  • "Slipped disc"
  • Arthritic pain & stiffness
  • Upper back & chest pain

Most private medical insurance schemes including BUPA and PPP will pay for osteopathic treatment.

Counselling

Counselling is an opportunity to talk about whatever is worrying you in a supportive and confidential setting, where you will not be judged. You can speak freely and openly about your feelings in a way which is not usually possible with friends or family. Counselling is not about giving advice or telling you what to do. It provides uninterrupted time to explore problems, helping you find your own solutions, and the resources within yourself to put those solutions into practice.

Since completing a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling in 2004, I have worked with people coping with bereavement and life-limiting illness. I can also help with a range of other issues such as stress, depresssion, anxiety and relationships.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis, a natural state of awareness, is simply used as a facilitator to enable change (either therapy or enhancement) to take place more speedily and more effectively.

We all experience informal states of hypnosis frequently, of course. For example, when we’re going to sleep, and when we’re waking up, we pass through a brief period when we may be aware of our surroundings even though our bodies may not be responsive to conscious control. Another example is when we daydream. This is a ‘dissociative’ state when our conscious thoughts drift away from whatever we are actually doing.
Hypnotherapy  can be very effective in the treatment of fears and phobias and is one of the favoured treatments by AnxietyUK – anxietyuk.org.uk (formerly the National Phobic Society). It can also be used for issues such as stress-management, weight control, smoking-cessation, tinnitus management, performance (anxiety and enhancement), psycho-sexual issues, and trauma, to name but a few...

The number of sessions required will vary, dependent on the person and the issue being addressed. Some treatments take 2 to 3 sessions, others may take more. Smoking Cessation is a one-session approach. The first session will normally be about 90 mins, with subsequent ones about 60 mins.

If you would like to discuss how hypnotherapy may help you, or would like to arrange an appointment, please call us on 01327 877050 or visit www.trance4m.co.uk.
